Never home

Beautiful black & white pictures of what looks like a deserted summer camping. We don't know where nor does it really matter. The serenity of the images draw you in and make you curious to see more of the strange place that also seems like a place of the past. 'Never home' is a project by Ryan Francis

Tell us a little about your background – what path led you to becoming a photographer, and to doing what you’re doing today?

I found my way into photography a few years ago. My girlfriend had a Nikon FM2 that she seldom used, so I began taking pictures using that and soon became enamoured with it.

How would you describe your work?

I look for scenes that I find melancholic, that evoke a fleeting nostalgia, and have a sense of beautiful emptiness.

Can you tell us a bit more about your process?

Initially I had more of an aimless process, but have since started to research locations prior to visiting, and sometimes having a concept in mind while taking photographs.
